Karla Tartz currently serves as the Chief Strategy and Operations Officer for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). In this capacity Karla leads the State’s efforts in fulfilling the commitments laid out in the Colorado Blueprint which includes the development of a Key Industry and Regional Development strategy. Karla also works closely with the Executive Director in overseeing the State’s initiatives and programs in business recruitment and retention, international export and foreign direct investment efforts, small business advocacy and assistance, and business finance/business lending efforts. Karla also oversees the internal administration and effective realignment of the office operations. These roles are essential in the ongoing outreach and coordination of economic initiatives across the state through an effective and efficient OEDIT organization.
Prior to joining OEDIT, Karla served as special counsel and then chief recruiting and development officer for the law firm of Holme Roberts & Owen in Denver. She assisted in developing and implementing the firm’s strategic plan through consensus building, developed key hiring strategies based on developing and identifying market trends, and was responsible for oversight of the firm’s professional and resources functions. Karla has also held positions with Comcast (formerly Tele Communications, Inc.) and Parcel, Mauro, Hultin & Spaanstra. Karla is also the owner of her own small business, KLT Corporation, and therefore understands the issues and needs of small business owners.
Karla earned a dual bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and a JD from The Ohio State University College of Law. Karla is active in the community and served as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver. She and her husband John have four children.
